Two-Factor Authentication is an extra layer of protection used to ensure the security of online accounts beyond just a username and password. It works by entering your usual login credentials e.g. email/username and password followed by a method of securing the account such as a text to your personal phone.
First thing's first - You will need a smartphone to download the Microsoft Authenticator App from your app store
The icon in your app store will look like the image to the right
After downloading and opening the app, you will be presented with a carousel of features, please skip this until you reach the main page
If you have previously had the Authenticator app and have now acquired a new device then here are the instructions on how to transfer your information to your new device.
Go to this link https://shortcuts.cbsc.co.uk/ and click on ‘Office 365’:
Please sign in with your credentials:
E.G.
Email: jbloggs@carshaltonboys.org
Password: The password you normally use to login.
If you have still got the same number, then use the option to text the code to your number to gain entry into your account. (If you don’t have the same number then you’ll have to try one of the other options).
Once you’ve entered your account, go to the top right-hand corner where your initials are and then click on it and go to ‘View Account’.
Then click on ‘update info' under the 'Security info' box. After that, click on ‘Additional security verification’.
If you can see your (old) device, then please ensure you delete it first by clicking on the delete button to the right as this may cause complications if you don't.
You then need to click on'Add Method'and then select 'Authenticator App.' from the drop-down menu, then click on'Add'.
If at this stage, you haven't downloaded the Microsoft Authenticator App then this is the last chance to do it to add your account.
You’ll need to then go on your new phone, open the app, add your work account by selecting the '+'sign and then selecting ‘work or school account’. This will either ask you to allow the camera (which you must say yes to) or it will take you directly to the camera.
After this, go to the 1st drop down option and select the option ‘Use verification code from app or token’ and then click ‘Save’.
Please test this by signing out of your Outlook account and then signing back in. After you enter your password, you will be prompted to enter a 6-digit code which you will find in your Microsoft Authenticator app.
Before you attempt to setup your new device, please ensure you let us know beforehand so that we can enforce the setting onto your Office 365 account.
If you don't have a smartphone then we can get you setup with an alternative method.
